Edmond H. Pi

Edmond H. Pi, MD is a Professor and Executive Vice Chairman, Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science and Clinical Professor of psychiatry at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Medicine. He is also Director of Adult Outpatient Service at the Augustus F. Hawkins Community Mental Health Center of the Martin Luther King, Jr./Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Dr. Pi is former Medical Director (1997-1998) of the Department of Mental Health (DMH), State of California. The DMH had oversight over almost $2 billion public mental health annual budget and approximately 7,000 employees. Dr. Pi has continued to serve as a member of the Cultural Competence Advisory Committee, California DMH. Dr. Pi is a member of the Advisory Committee of the California Institute of Mental Health (CIMH) Center for Cultural Competency. He is also former Director of Transcultural Psychiatry, Adult Psychiatric Outpatient Services, In-Patient Services, and Consultation Liaison Services at Los Angeles County and University of Southern California (USC) Medical Center.

A Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr Pi has outstanding credentials in clinical care, teaching, research, and administration. He has been selected by his peers to be included in “The Best Doctors in America” (Psychiatry) since 1994 and in “America’s Top Doctors” (Psychiatry) since 2001. Dr. Pi is an accomplished researcher in the fields of cross-cultural psychiatry, psychopharmacology, and movement disorders, with 150 publications including abstracts, articles, and book chapters. Dr. Pi is a Distinguished Fellow of both the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and a fellow of the American College of Psychiatrists (ACP).

He is active in community service, serving on the Board of Directors of The Committee of 100 (1993-1998), The China AIDS Fund (2003-Present), the Mental Health Association in Los Angeles County (1995-97; 1998-2001), the American Red Cross, San Gabriel Chapter, California (1994-1997), Chair of Community Relations Subcommittee (1992-1994) and Member (1993-Present) of the California Governor’s Committee for Employment of Disabled Persons. Dr. Pi made a presentation to the National Council on Disability Hearings on Minorities with Disabilities and the Implementation of Americans with Disabilities Act in 1992.
