Michael
Lin
Michael Lin came from Taiwan, China 40 years ago. After obtaining
his
doctorate degree in Georgia and further training in New York, he
has been working at the National Institutes of Health in various
capacities and is currently a program officer for cardiovascular
program.
Michael Lin is a member of the Board of Trustees of Montgomery
College in Maryland. Recently, he served as the Chair (1998-2002)
of the Governor's Commission on Asian Pacific Americans Affairs
in Maryland and as the National President (1995-98) of the Organization
of Chinese Americans, headquartered in Washington, DC with 90 chapters
and affiliates across the nation, which is a national advocacy
organization for the rights of Asian Americans. During his tenure,
OCA has spearheaded the national voter registration campaign, cosponsored
by 18 other prominent national Asian Pacific American organizations.
For three years, OCA, under his leadership, convened the historic
Asian Pacific American Leadership Summits to address issues confronting
theAsian American community. It was attended by top community leaders
and major civic organizations from across the nation. He expanded
OCA's education initiatives, including the highly popular internship
program, which provides opportunities for college students to work
in the Congress, various federal agencies, non-profit organizations
and OCA national headquarters.
He is the Managing Partner of the Canterbury Hotel Group, which
owns and operates the American Inn of Bethesda. He is also a board
member of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce and the President
of the Asian American Political Alliance, consisting of the Asian
American leadership in Montgomery County, which meets with public
officials monthly to ensure the visibility and participation of
the Asian American community in all civic activities.
His wife, Ellen, is the General Manager of American Inn of Bethesda.
His son, Christopher, is an aerospace engineer working at Boeing
Co., and his daughter, Jennifer, is a physician in New York City.
