Bo Lu
Professor Lu is Director of the Weatherhead East Asian Institute,
Columbia University and Associate Professor of Political Science.
Lu teaches courses on Chinese politics, East Asian political economy,
and comparative politics. His research interests include post-socialist
political economies, political corruption and good governance,
the politics of regulation, and government-business relations in
East Asia. He has published widely on these subjects and consults
for business firms, civic groups, and government agencies.
He is the author of the book Cadres and Corruption (Stanford,
2000). His recent book (with Thomas Bernstein) is on the political
and economic changes in the Chinese countryside, Taxation without
Representation in Contemporary Rural China (Cambridge, 2003).
Professor Lu is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations,
the Committee of 100, and the National Committee on U.S.-China
Relations. He is a regular commentator on China and U.S.-China
relations on PBS, CNN, BBC, and NPR and has delivered speeches
and briefings to organizations such as the Council on Foreign Relations,
the Asia Foundation, the Asia Society, World Affairs Council, the
National Committee for U.S.-China Relations, the American Center
for International Leadership, the China Institute of America, and
the Japan Society.
Professor Lu received his Ph.D. degree in political science in
1994 from the University of California, Berkeley.
