Jenny Ming
Jenny Ming is President of Old Navy, a division of Gap Inc.,
a leading international specialty retailer offering clothing,
accessories and personal care products under the Gap, Banana
Republic and Old Navy brand names. Headquartered in San Francisco,
Gap Inc. operates more than 4,200 stores in the United States,
the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Japan and Germany with
fiscal 2001 sales exceeding $13 billion.
As part of the executive team that introduced Old Navy in
1994, Ming helped Old Navy to make history as the first retailer
ever to reach $1 billion in annual sales in less than four
years. The idea was simple: offer customers great, quality
fashion, with superior customer service at an unbeatable
value. Old Navy quickly redefined value-priced apparel retailing
by making shopping for fashion fun—and affordable.
Today, Old Navy is a leading specialty retail brand with
over 800 stores in the United States and Canada (Ming expanded
Old Navy into Canada in spring 2001).
Ming joined Gap Inc. in 1986 as Merchandise Manager of Gap
brand activewear. Since that time, she has held the positions
of Vice President and Divisional Merchandise Manager for
Gap brand activewear and Senior Vice President of Merchandising
for Old Navy responsible for production, planning, and distribution.
In 1996, she was promoted to Executive Vice President of
Merchandising for Old Navy, responsible for merchandising,
planning and distribution, production and visual and store
design processes for all Old Navy stores. She assumed her
present position in March of 1999. As President of Old Navy,
Ming also is a member of Gap Inc.’s senior operating
committee.
In 1998, Ming was featured on the cover of Working Woman
magazine. In 2000, She was named by Business Week magazine
as one of the nation’s Top 25 Managers.
Ming has been on the Board of Epiphany since 2001 and sits
on the nonprofit Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of San
Francisco and the Peninsula.
Ming graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelor
of Arts degree in clothing merchandising and a minor in marketing.
Ming lives in the Bay Area with her husband and three teenage
children.
